David Sibbald

A Scot from Edinburgh, but studying at university in Glasgow, David embarked on his radio career at Radio Clyde in the Newsroom. But the attraction of teaching Spanish, Russian, Portuguese and French was too strong to resist and he went on to be a Junior School Head and Senior teacher at a major secondary school. He still finds time to give private coaching.

In 1985, he moved abroad (to England!) and owned his own restaurant, while teaching part-time. He had regular programmes in North Yorkshire, then on the internet and, after finally retiring from teaching, he found himself doing a daily breakfast show on a community radio station near Harrogate. These days his radio work can be found on the internet, as well as on local stations for ex-pats in Spain and France. As well as his love for music of the 40s, 50s and 60s, David has found a new passion – country music.

Since turning 60, David has found yet another passion – cruising! His knowledge of language and interest in different cultures has led him to discover more about the places he visits. One of his most recent explorations led him to Budapest, which he enjoyed immensely, but the Hungarian language had him beat!

You can catch David on Ex-Pat Radio with his Sunday Brunch (11am – 1pm); his Nostalgia Club – music of the 1950s; his 60s Show on Thursdays and Fridays, his Relaxation Hour on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and his Country Classics on Saturday afternoons.

Colin’s Choice

My weekly music programme encompasses a mix of Jazz, Big Bands and Vocal. Geared to Ex-Pat Radio’s international listening audience, I try to cover a wide range of music and stories behind the recordings.

I am a massive jazz fan.  My taste in jazz covers quite a wide spectrum – from Luis Russell to George Russell, or if you prefer, From Harry Barris to Barry Harris.

On the Big Band side, along with the Swing Era Greats, I also try to include lesser known masters in my programmes – Don Redman, Edgar Sampson and Sy Oliver and similarly with vocalists, I’ll endeavour to include amongst the great Song Vocalists some fine but lesser known singers such as Carol Sloane, Sue Raney, Jeanie Bryson and on the male side, Johnny Hartman, Steve Lawrence and Dennis Lotis.  Such artists are seldom heard on the airwaves these days.

On a personal note I have been an avid record collector for more years than I care to mention and as such have amassed a rather sizeable collection of music, which is not surprisingly, used as the source for my weekly programme.
My other interests include walking, cycling, reading and as a former drummer, listening to live music.

I also really enjoy digital games where I can create and modify them – can’t wait till I’m old enough to get one of my own, I haven’t really made up what I’d like but it’ll be easier if I win the lottery!  I also really like basketball and am lucky have a court near me to hang out at.  Will do my best to give as much sports news as I can find so if you have any sporting events on in your area, email me via the radio station.

Hi there – Im 46 years old and grew up in London . In my early years I was heavily in to rap & was fascinated watching DJs mix and scratch on a pair of turntables .When i was 15 i  saved up just enough money from my paper round and went up to Tottenham court road in London where i slapped down a deposit for a pair of Technics 1200 turntables and a gemini mixer . I learned quickly- putting on parties and club nights and won the BMA ( Black Music Association ) DJ competition when i was 17. Then along came house music and the warehouse party scene . Whilst organising & travelling to Rave parties across the south east of england , my friends and myself set up a pirate radio station Wizdom 101.8 fm . This was great fun until our eventual demise at the hands of the DTI resulting in a hefty fine and community service.

I left London for Paris in 1997 and until the birth of my first daughter in 2006 i carried on Djing in clubs and bars around Paris. I now live just outside Paris with my beautiful partner , two lovely children and our little dog.

If you’d like a mention on the show please email :      myhousenation@gmail.com

Music has been a huge part of my life since I was very young and my i-pod features music ranging from Baroque to 21st century electronic trance and ambient stopping at almost all stations between! But it is the blues that is my passion and I have been bringing the blues to the airwaves since 2001 via various internet stations around the world and a couple of FM station in the UK.

I retired to the northern Haute-Vienne in France 8 years ago after 40 years working in the City of London and produce my shows from a small home studio. I am actively involved in the Le Buis Blues Festival (www.lebuisbluesfestival.com) and am also starting to put on blues gigs locally.

I am also still very much involved in the blues in the UK and in 2015 founded the UK Blues Federation (www.ukblues.org) of which I am Chair. The aim of the Federation is to provide a focal point for the blues in the UK and to promote UK blues around the world. We run an annual UK Blues Challenge the winner of which represents the UK at the European Blues Challenge as well as the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in the USA.

For more details about Digital Blues, which is broadcast every Friday between 15.00 & 16.00, visit my website www.digitalblues.co.uk

Ira Faro

Ira Faro

Ira Faro

The Blend host Ira was found by Groucho Marx floating down the Nile in a reed basket 3,500 years ago. Flown through time and space by Tardis to the south of France, Ira materialized in ExpatRadio’s studios and immediately began playing upbeat music from around the world including the best of American regional music and the blues. To this day, Ira’s stream of consciousness style retains elements of the language of the ancient astronauts who built the pyramids.
If you prefer the truth:
Ira and his wife Cathey moved permanently to the south of France from the United States after their retirement in 2014. After a first career for both as florists, Ira spent his last working years fundraising for a charity that assisted mainly with the homeless and people with mental illness while Cathey built a career in retail marketing. For 20 years prior to their move, Ira also hosted weekly radio shows on his local National Public Radio station, first featuring blues and, more recently, world music. Ira’s tastes, and therefore Ira’s shows, are eclectic and diverse. Enjoy!

Coach JJ

Coach JJ

Coach JJ

Coach JJ…Aka…The Dark Knight, spent most of his career developing new companies in high tech, and most recently bringing that background to the world of contracting. After building a successful General Contracting firm in Austin, TX (FIDUS Construction Services), he decided to pursue coaching as a Full Time Career. Making the transition did not come easy. Currently a CLC (Certified Life Coach), he is now pursuing his dream to grow the non-profit Depression2Extinction aimed to help those suffering from depression and anxiety disorders.
Two years ago Coach JJ was 65lbs + overweight, smoking 2 packs a day, and working 100+ hours per week.  He was drinking too much and did not have any balance in his life.
Then Coach JJ started working with Veteran Life Coach, Lori Anderson, and his entire perspective changed.  He lost over 70lbs in 8 months, started eating well, sleeping, and reducing stress – mostly thru MOVEment.  His favorite thing to do was RUN. Kinda. That obviously had huge positive effects on every aspect of his life, changing how he approached life, career, family, and balance.
He is now on a quest to be the first person to run a 50k in all 50 States in 50 consecutive days. Since he is 47, the logistics of this are challenging. But he is determined to complete this to help raise much needed awareness around the STIGMA that still surrounds depression and anxiety. And if there is one thing you’ll get to know about Coach JJ – once it’s in his mind to do something – he is gonna do it.
Coach JJ is devoted to developing Depression2Extinction, a non-profit  that offers anyone suffering from depression or anxiety a place to connect and begin a holistic approach to dealing with these debilitating disorders.

As a youngster I was brought up on rock and roll music having two older sisters who lived for dancing to the music of the day. Later, my interest in music grew steadily from listening to all the Pirate Radio Stations, and I began DJ- ing in the seventies using vinyl records. I was eager to listen to all genres of music, but my first love will always be rock and roll!

I moved from vinyl to CD and my DJ- ing work moved into the clubs, pubs, private parties and weddings around the Basingstoke area, and I enjoyed every minute.

I moved to Brittany, France in 2008 and set up a DJ-ing business with my wife, working mainly for British ex-pats providing wedding and party music. It is a very successful venture, and we continue to enjoy the music and sociability this brings. We have also raised a substantial amount of money for the charity Medecins Sans Frontiere by doing discos, a charity that we personally support.  At the end of the day it is all about my love of the music, and where would we be without it!!
